Parent and
Parish Working Together
Growing in faith is seen as something that begins
with the way life is lived everyday.
A key component of
that faith life is for parents to pray with their
children at church each week and establish some
faith practices at home. If a parent had to choose,
Mass is a better choice than coming to CCD classes.
No classroom program can establish the basics of
Catholic faith.
Therefore, the Religious Education
program (CCD) consists of more than classes for
students. The programmatic elements attempt to give
families opportunities to come together around
different aspects of faith both at home and in a
parish setting. This process is meant to give
parents, as well as their children, an opportunity
to deepen their understanding of faith.
For young children we focus on the
Sunday Scripture readings so that faith is based on
the stories of Jesus and the parish’s celebration of
Mass each Sunday. Parent sessions are held at the
same time as the children’s classes so parents can
know what is being taught and can come to a better
understanding and insight about faith for
themselves.
Middle school teens focus on the
topics of growing up and coming to know themselves
and their community. High School students prepare
for Confirmation with a stronger focus on Church
traditions and what it means to take responsibility
for themselves.
