Dear Blessed Sacrament Community,
As many of you know, our good friend and neighbor, Nancy Bacevich, became a Gold Star mom on Mother’s Day, 2007, when her son Andy was killed in Iraq. The Bacevich family gratefully remembers the many packages sent by Blessed Sacrament School to Andy and his men during their time in Iraq. A memorial tree, planted in the front of the school, honors Lieutenant Andrew Bacevich.. We know there were many of you who expressed a desire to help at that time, and we thought you might want to help Nancy and her husband, Andy, with something very important to them.
Nancy and Andy want to give back to the religious community at Mt. St. Mary’s Abbey in Wrentham for all the prayers, support and comfort the nuns provided their family during the dark days after Andy was killed. Nancy’s sister, Maureen, is a member of the Trappistine order and has been living at the Abbey since 1964.
These Trappistine sisters follow the rule of St. Benedict; they are cloistered (which makes their efforts on behalf of the Bacevich family all the more remarkable.) They support themselves mainly by their candy operation, which you can order at www.trappistinecandy.com. The candy is delicious and would be a great gift to have on hand for the upcoming holiday season.
The nuns need a new kitchen. The one they have worked in for over forty years is beyond simple repairs. The Abbey has initiated a fund drive, which Nancy and Andy would like to support. On October18, 2008, Nancy is organizing a live and silent auction to be held at Blessed Sacrament School at 6:00 pm. The goal is to raise money for the much-needed candy kitchen for the Abbey.
We are seeking donations of theatre or sports tickets, gift baskets, restaurant gift certificates, or anything you think would be a good raffle or silent auction item. We will be happy to arrange pick up of any donations. If you would like to give a tax-deductible contribution to Mt. St. Mary’s Abbey, 300 Arnold St., Wrentham, MA 02093, you may do that also.
Nancy and Andy would love you to drop in and enjoy the evening with them on October 18th. There is no charge for admission and there will be many wonderful auction items to bid on. Please let me know if we can answer any questions. We would love to see you on the 18th. (Check the auction website, www.abbeyartauction.com, for a listing of the artists’ paintings).
Wishing you a very happy new school year,
Jeanne and Terry Nolan 4 Andrew Way Walpole, MA 02081
